Winter is the slowest time of year for outdoor family portraits, but the weather has just been too nice not to get out there and capture the happiness! The Kansas State University campus is one of my favorite locations during the cold months. They do such a great job of maintaining the landscaping even in the drabbest time of year.
Whether we are trying to avoid cold temperatures or aiming for a beautiful snow session, we can be flexible this time of year so that we can adjust to the forecast for your Winter photo session.
These pictures were all taken close to Nichols Hall on the South side of campus, but I also love taking families to the gardens and over by the Beach Museum. There were plenty of background distractions to carefully avoid, but I can’t complain about the amazing light we got at the very end of the hour!
These family photos were all taken around McCain Auditorium at Kansas State University. But, there are plenty of other great locations around Manhattan during the Winter months. Some of my other favorite spots are Washington Marlatt and Warner Memorial Park where the native tallgrasses give your photos warmth year round. Aggieville is another wonderful spot for Winter time pictures. I love going into some of the local businesses with my photo clients. Varsity Donuts and The Dusty Bookshelf are popular spots for cozy shots!
Obviously, this was a relatively warm, Winter day in Kansas to show off the possibility of beautiful backdrops. But, we can take pictures in chilly weather, too! Snow sessions can be epic levels of fun, incredible pictures, and hot chocolate makes the perfect reward for you whole family.
If it’s cold at your photo session, be sure to bring some blankets along. We can use those blankets in pictures or just have them on hand to bundle up between shots.
