It doesn’t take much to create a gorgeous newborn gallery. Give me a touch of light, a soft spot for the baby, and a simple backdrop.
When I started my business for birth photography, I purchased the best low light equipment. I needed to capture candlelit births if that was what Mama wanted at the time. It didn’t even occur to me that I was setting myself up to also tackle dimly lit home sessions. And I absolute LOVE how these newborn pictures came out. It was perfection with just a bed, diffuse light from overcast skies through a small window, and a sweet, little baby.
Normally, I’ll take pictures in several different rooms including the nursery, living room, master bedroom, and sometimes sibling’s bedrooms, too. While the variety is nice, it’s not necessary. When I arrive at your home, you’ll give me a quick tour so I can find the best light. I may end up asking permission to move a few things around, but I generally keep things simple and relaxed.
For this newborn session in Manhattan, KS, things were pretty chaotic. We ended up spending the whole time in the master bedroom, which provided the perfect kiss of light. It also allowed Mama to shut out the mess of responsibilities waiting on the other side of the door.
Seriously, could this baby be any cuter? I love how sweet and simple these pictures are.
It was my honor to be this family’s maternity photographer, birth photographer, newborn photographer, and their family photographer.
