Just under the bridge coming into Manhattan, KS, the Fairmont Boat Ramp provides a great spot for pictures along the Kansas River shore. Turn onto McDowell Creek Road just south of the bridge on Highway 18/177 then take the first right. The road winds down through a beautiful wooded area and dead ends at the boat ramp. Depending on the water level, there’s quite a lot of space to explore. It’s beautiful!
I love watching the sunset over the Kansas River along this shoreline.
This is one of easiest access points to the Kansas River, so it’s a great location for family photos.
There is very little traffic and some beautiful wooded backdrops surrounding the Fairmont boat ramp.
This is a great spot year round for photos. I love it in the Fall as the leaves are changing. But, even after the leaves have dropped, the Kansas River makes such a beautiful backdrop for your family pictures.

My kids absolutely love this shoreline where they can find all kinds of fossils and other treasures. I’d love to see the water level rise again, but in the meantime, grab some buckets and take your kids out there to explore! There is so much to see and do totally unplugged.
