Linear Park is on the East side of Manhattan off of highway 24. You’ll probably recognize it for the train bridge and boat ramp on the Blue River just before it merges with the Kansas River. It’s such a beautiful spot for pictures!
I love this location for the variety of backdrops including the train bridge, the boulders and river, and the beautiful Linear Trail. It’s just a short walk from the parking lot to the bridge and River Trail!
The bike and walking trail at Linear Park is absolutely beautiful during the Spring through Fall. The Linear Trail is even lined with tallgrass. There is some poison ivy along the trail and we need to keep an eye out for bikers, so we’ll want to be careful bringing small children back there. But, we can easily do a full photo session without venturing into this wooded area.
Of all of the parks in the Manhattan area that are populated with native trees, I think this one has some of the most beautiful Fall colors. To get the bright oranges and reds, you’ll want to head over to places like City Park, CiCo Park, and Anneberg Park. But, at those spots, we’ll be dodging a lot more people and other background distractions. I love how natural this park is without all of the extra walking. It’s great for families with small children or anyone with limited mobility.
There is a lot of shade along the wooded trail. This gives us more flexibility when scheduling the time for your photo session. Lots of trees, tallgrass, the beautiful Blue River, and even that epic train bridge? What a fun spot!
You have probably passed right by Linear Park many times, but have you ever gone exploring? It’s such a wonderful location! Go check it out!
