Are you wondering if your home is good enough for newborn photos? Are you worried it’s too dark? Too small? Perhaps too messy? This featured gallery on Fort Riley is a great example for you!
In addition to difficult shooting conditions, this particular session included 3 babies under 3. I’ll include several before and after pictures so you can get an idea of the type of editing that may be needed to achieve perfection. Even in challenging situations, we can get you gorgeous photos in the comfort of your home.
Often, the biggest challenge for newborn sessions is finding good light combined with simple, clutter-free backdrops. Mama wasn’t even posing for this photo. She was just snuggling and calming her little one. So, the light wasn’t great and neither was the background. This is where picking a photographer with excellent editing skills can make or break a natural light session. Want me to leave the real life background in there? Just let me know! I tend to clean things up by default so your eyes are not drawn away from the sweet connections.
If your home is dark, I will most likely seek out a couple windows where most of your session will take place.
This is one of my favorite poses for your newborn when he is awake. Babies look so different when upright and this little guy was really showing off his neck strength in that beautiful window light.
If needed, we can move a chair or bed closer to the window, but I was able to get beautiful photos with just the light from that one window without rearranging any furniture.
In this case, yes. I could have pushed the bed back, but while wrangling a one year, two year old and keeping a newborn asleep, I didn’t want to risk missing the shot. Instead, I extended the background to achieve a properly framed photo.
Even their kitty, Moose, joined the fun for a few minutes. But for the most part, he decided it was more fun to play pointy peek-a-boo with my feet while I focused on his humans.
There were toys everywhere, and no simple backdrops, so I took a few minutes to shuffle things around a little. That included moving mama’s favorite chair into the window light.
Take a look at these before and after pictures and see if you can tell what I did to clean things up during the editing process. I noticed many of these distractions while shooting, but it took all of our combined energy to keep all three kiddos in the frame. As with all of my lifestyle sessions, I’m more interested in maintaining a good flow and beautiful connections than fixing every little, distracting detail.
I actually started this photo series using a blanket to cover up the couch stains. But, I decided the pink coordinated better with their outfits. Photoshop to the rescue!
Fortunately, we had nice, overcast skies. So, when little man was just about out of steam, I called for a change of scenery.
Whatever it takes to keep them giggling!
After big sister and brother were all tuckered out, Mama and I got to focus on baby AJ. We even got to take another round of beautiful outdoor photos. This little guy did amazing!
Here’s what Mama Nicole had to say after receiving her final gallery:
“Tammy was the most amazing photographer I have ever experienced! I hired Tammy for a newborn photo session of my newest edition. I have 3 kids in total all under the age of 3 so I was completely unsure of how pictures would even work. Tammy however was completely confident which did A LOT at putting my mind at ease. She came to my home and made the experience fun for everyone, I felt completely relaxed and there was no uncomfortable posing or pressure on timing.
The photos came out beautiful I struggled greatly in choosing the ones I would purchase! The best part was the photos came with a peaceful fun memory instead of the tantrums and headache I am accustomed too. I would absolutely recommend Tammy for everyone! she knows how to capture the beauty amidst the chaos!“
