My schedule doesn’t allow me to travel much, but when I can coordinate an on location photo shoot, I want to make sure to utilize as much of the unique qualities that location provides as possible!
When I first arrived at this extended family photo shoot in Linn, Kansas, my eyes went straight to the old barn on the property. What a fantastic backdrop!
Unfortunately, the barn was oriented so that the beautiful evening light was still way too harsh on the one usable side. I suggested that we hold off on barn pictures and see how the light looked toward the end of the session.
I quickly found this gorgeous spot with the light filtering through the leaves. I knew we’d be able to take most of the pictures there with no problem, but I didn’t drive over an hour to this location to have trees in the background. We could have done that pretty much anywhere!
I worked with the sun as it sunk lower behind the trees and then once we had all of the people combinations requested, we walked around the property to capture some of the old farm house charm.
The light never quite softened on the barn’s face the way we’d hoped, but there was soon enough shade in front of the barn to get a great group picture before focusing in on the one kiddo in the group for some cute, playful moments.
Nice work, everyone!
