Normally, I don’t get terribly excited when someone asks me to do head shots, but this session was about another one of my passions: music.
The moment this mama contacted me asking for special audition pictures for her adorable son, Jordan, I had images of music and light flooding my brain.
Can we go somewhere with a piano?
Does it have decent natural light?
Good enough! Let’s do it!
I brought a flash and reflector with me knowing that we’d have limited light. I also stuck with my 35mm ART lens so I could work with a very large aperture (translation: a lens that is very difficult to use, but lets a lot of extra light in!).
Jordan wasn’t terribly interested in participating at first, but that’s pretty par for the course. I had reserved plenty of time for him to warm up to me. What finally got him engaged probably won’t go over too well with the Steinway lovers out there, but we were very careful, I promise! No Steinways were injured during the making of these photos. To those who specifically care for this beautiful instrument, I think you’ll even find it cleaner than you last saw it!
With two professional musicians for parents, I have no doubt Jordan will continue to grow up with a passion for music. I hope these pictures are forever cherished and I’ll be shocked if Jordan doesn’t get the part!
